I've listened to your audio which is fantastic, taken heaps of notes! But I HAVE already quit my job, actually did it months ago but I leave in about seven weeks. I just couldn't take another year of it, anyway, it's the kind of job you commit to for 3 months to (more likely) a year at a time. I have some temp work lined up & someone who wants to talk to me about working for them doing some things i like. But I also want to do the free-range tweaking and for me, I feel that I have not got enough energy etc. to do my job and then work on my projects on the side. For most people they probably DO and this is right for them. But not for me. Fortunately, I DO have savings and like I said, temp work lined up while I explore my options.

I finally decided I had to listen to the voice telling me that my soul was not worth any amount of money, and got out of a job I'd been in for 9 years last summer. I currently earn a lot less, and I'm not yet in that ideal place, but every day I thank God I left.

I had never thought of myself as a materialist and was angry that I had allowed myself to become trapped by money.

I am happier than I've been for years. I have the occasional frisson of concern, but I trust myself to arrive in the right place for me. And those frissons are as nothing compared with the despair if being trapped in the wrong job.

Great post. I like the part that you say, “Reality is NOT about what ‘most people do’ or ‘the way things are now’ ” Just wondering, do you have a reality checklist for people who have taken the first leap and still feel disoriented?

hi great post….but marianne can't you work on the mentality of employers that often don't allow people more flexible working. Its only women with kids who seem to get offered that choice. that mentality needs to change so employers 'get' that their employees need to try out other things….
