As part of the Free Range Humans “They did it, so can you” series, I am interviewing people who chose to take a career break rather than make a career change.
The first career break-er is Lesley, a former colleague of mine from our days in the Disney head office in London.
Lesley had felt it was time for a career break for quite a while, yet she had never had the ‘push’ to go out there and do it.
Last year, redundancies were sweeping through the company, and, in her own words:
“I started thinking about what I would do if I got made redundant… and then I decided to do it all anyway!”
So Lesley handed in her notice, signed up as an American Conservation Experience volunteer, and set off across the Atlantic.
After her time with ACE, she ended up travelling in Central America, then quite unexpectedly working at the Winter Olympics.
When she was ready to settle down, Lesley then found an even-more-perfect animation job, in the city she had dreamt of living in for so long – Vancouver, Canada.
She is currently living and working in Vancouver, and is very happy she made the leap.
Hear about her story from London desk job to lifetime adventure and new dream job, here.

PS: Lesley’s Conservation experience was just amazing. She made a short video about it which is worth a watch, just for the buzz!
