Career change story: from BBC producer to running Greek cookery classes

by Marianne Cantwell

This is the first in a series of video interviews with inspirational career changers. “They did it, so can you” maps out how people – just like you – made the move from ‘regular’ jobs, to a dream career.

Elisavet Sotiriadou moved from being a picture producer working night shifts at the BBC, to working for herself as a freelance music journalist AND running sell-out Greek cookery classes in London.

Elisavet’s ‘crazy’ dream of teaching people to cook Greek food has become so successful that, one year in, her classes are being featured in ‘Red’ magazine (look out for Elisavet in an apron in next month’s Red edition!)

PS:  I’ve done her London-based cookery class and it is fantastic! Check it out here.

Thanks to MY Production for their fabulous video editing on this series.

My favourite things about this interview:

    1. Comparing Elisavet's face and voice tone between her describing her old job, and talking about what she is doing now. Check out the change from 'down' to 'animated and enthusiastic' around 2:00 on the video!

    2. How non-linear the career change story is. She had no idea what she was going to do, and it's fascinating to listen to how things unfolded.

    3. How Elisavet kept going despite others not believing she could do it.

I love reading your comments on this, and I noticed the strained face in the beginning while talking about a job I needed to move on from, and then being more enthusiastic about the cooking! Amazing that feeling is still there!

Really loved this video, lovely girl with her story, these sort of stories replace the belief that it is not possible to change your career, wonderful stuff thank you!

Great video – Thanks for the inspiration Elisavet – it is amazing what happens when we stick to our guns and go for the dream. I love the flexibility in keeping options open and always moving forward.
